“You’re doing senior photography [big pause] ….. really?”, people ask me with a quizzical stare. “No, not those kind of seniors,” I explain, “high school seniors.” I start to recognize a little glimmer of understanding in their eyes. But I just know there are images of the studio posed, feathered drape portrait running through the dark recesses of their imagination. And I’m pretty sure those images are being punctuated with remnant strains of anything sung by the BeeGee’s … Night Fever, Night Fever … Hey you [record scratch] … snap out of it! Let’s fast forward 30 years and talk modern senior photography …
Today’s senior portraits are fresh, fun and exciting and nothing like that drapey thing up there. They more closely resemble a fashion-style photo shoot … think Seventeen Magazine. The individualized nature of today’s senior portrait shoot is designed to capture the unique personality of each senior, for who they are today, before they head off into the next phase of life. And it’s as much about the experience as it is about capturing great images! Professional make-up, wardrobe changes and fashionable poses make this once-in-a-lifetime event an experience all unto itself!
When a senior books her senior portraits with me, professional makeup applied at Make Me Up on Magazine Street is included in the session fee. The studio is so adorable, and Celeste is amazing at applying makeup and educating all along the way … I think she rocks and I think you will think so, too!
But makeup is just the beginning! Next we’ll choose outfits then hit the streets for a fun afternoon of fashion-style shooting. The result is timeless images that are so fresh, so chic and so “not-your-mother’s” senior portraits.
