Mondays with M – I like to move it, move it!

Happy Spring!  A new season happened this week, which makes me take note that the first three months of the year are nearly over.  This year I decided my New Years resolution would be to get healthy and three months later, I’m happy to say I’m sticking with it and seeing progress!  So what am I doing?  Nothing fad,  just lifestyle changes … that’s it!  Walking more, eating less … weight loss is a simple equation of burning more calories than you take in.  I don’t think of it as a diet, but a new way of life.  Photography is incredibly physically demanding … so I need to get healthy for a little job insurance!

I’ve been having fun with some handy apps that help me track  progress … and I find that tracking is the key.  Its just like everything else in life; in order to be successful you have to have a plan, and then a means to measure success so that you’ll know if you are hitting your goals.  So first and foremost is my WeightWatcher’s app, that helps us make good food choices.  I say “us” because even Steve is in on the choices (and the benefits), since he eats what I cook.  But it is also very effective in helping us order smart in restaurants, too! Then there’s my FitBit (pedometer) that keeps track of my daily steps.  This app is fun and it let’s me know if I’m spending too much time just sitting, which is easy to do when I’m editing.  I’ve set a daily goal, and I can usually meet it by just taking my daily steps, especially on days when I shoot.  On slower days, the app will send me a reminder to move, at which point I jump up from the sofa and dance a little until I make my goal.   There’s never a dull moment around here!

So my first 3-month’s progress … I’m about 10 lbs. and one dress size down!  It may not sound like a lot, but that’s over 5% of my total body weight.  In a few weeks, when the loss is more obvious, I’ll post some before and afters … because everyone loves a good transformation story!  I’d love to hear about your goals and transformations.  Drop me a note and let me know.
